DC Kupwara chairs NCORD meeting

KUPWARA: In order to review the progress made to curb drug abuse in the Kupwara district, a meeting of the District Level Committee of Narco Coordination (NCORD) was held today under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan at the meeting hall of DC Office Complex here.

At the outset, the DC took a detailed appraisal from concerned members of the NCORD Committee regarding the present scenario of drug-related occurrences, various issues related to the menace of drug addiction, its control and rehabilitation and areas of concern.

She meticulously reviewed the implementation of the measures taken and the progress achieved to eliminate drug abuse and its peddling in the Kupwara District.

The DC took feedback from the members of the Committee who presented the latest report related to action taken against drug addiction and drug trafficking in the District.

On the occasion, Ayushi stressed upon the Officers of all the line Departments to further intensify IEC activities, connecting communities including religious influencers and civil society members.

She also emphasized the Officers including Enforcement agencies for identification and close vigil of entry points, hot spots of drugs, public places and abandoned buildings.

Similarly, the DC also laid thrust on further intensifying IEC campaigns (seminars, rallies and other programmes on the harmful effects of drug menace) at Schools and college levels to sensitize students and common masses about the effects of drugs and close coordination between Health, Education and other line departments.

The DC meticulously reviewed the functioning of the Drug De-addiction Centre Kupwara and Addiction Treatment Facility Centre (ATFC) Handwara and stressed for upscaling the therapeutic management and proper counselling of the drug addicts which can help the addicts to come out of the menace.

She said in order to combat this rising societal problem, a multi-pronged Rehabilitation, Counselling and Guidance policy is indispensable to be implemented on the ground to monitor drug abuse and take remedial measures to curb the menace so that sufferings of the drug-affected persons is mitigated.

On the occasion CMO Kupwara, Dr. Ramzan appraised the chair that 1182 cases of drug and substance abuse have been identified in the district, 676 have been treated and 345 cases have fully recovered till date.

It was given out that 100 percent CCTV cameras have been installed in the medical stores of the district.

The chair was apprised that as many as 52 FIRs were registered in the police district Kupwara, 73 drug peddlers were arrested. In police district Handwara 19 FIRs were registered and 46 drug peddlers were arrested and lodged in different jails.

The meeting among others was attended by ADC Kupwara, Mohammad Rouf Rehman, ACP Kupwara, ASP Kupwara, CMO Kupwara, CEO Kupwara, Medical Superintendent DH Handwara, Assistant Drug controller, Tehsildars besides other concerned Officers.
