Srinagar: The body of a man from Ali Kadal area of Srinagar was found floating in River Jhelum near Safa Kadal area on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Quoting an official, news agency KNO reported that the body was spotted by locals, who then retrieved it.
He said police later took over the body and shifted it to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The official added the deceased has been identified as Nadeem Fayaz Bhat, son of Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of Budhgeer Ali Kadal. A case has been registered and inquest proceedings initiated to ascertain the cause of death.
The body will be handed over to the family after the completion of legal proceedings, the official said
