Srinagar: Lok Sabha MP from Baramulla Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid on Saturday met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha here and apprised him of the issues faced by people.
“Engineer Rashid briefed the LG about the demands of the people of north Kashmir. The Lok Sabha member also urged the LG to revisit the cases of terminated government employees,” a spokesman of Rashid’s Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) said in a statement here.
He also briefed the LG about the difficulties being faced by the people in getting police verifications.
Rashid demanded that harassment of youths and others in the name of verification by police be immediately stopped, the spokesman added.
Rashid also asked the LG to urge Centre to talk with people of J&K and resolve their legitimate issues while giving them their political rights.
“If centre could talk to the people of Ladakh, and the people of Northeast, why can’t they talk to J&K people,” Rashid asked.
As per the statement, Rashid also asked the LG to ensure that the human rights and dignity of the general public are not trampled.
In addition to this, the north Kashmir MP also sought quick disposal of pending passport cases, urging the LG to ensure that the youth are issued their passports without being tangled in unnecessary issues.
While seeking transparency of the governance, Rashid told LG that he should remind the officials that their primary duty is to serve people unbiased, and that they should shun corruption and nepotism.
The statement said that the LG assured the MP that the issues he raised would be noted and looked into seriously.
