The camp aimed to screen and diagnose refractive errors and other ophthalmological conditions among school children and the general population.

The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Iffat Hassan, Principal & Dean, GMC Srinagar, and mentored by Prof. Dr. S. Muhammad Salim Khan (HOD Community Medicine) and Prof. Junaid Salam Wani (HOD Ophthalmology). Dr. Kouser Sideeq and Dr. Sameena Yousuf, Assistant Professors in the Department of Community Medicine, coordinated the event activities.

The camp was held at Government Boys Higher Secondary Institute, Tailbal, Block Hazratbal, and received support from Dr. Fara Shafi, Block Medical Officer, Hazratbal, ensuring provision of logistics and personnel.

A dedicated team of ophthalmological specialists provided expertise for the camp, including Dr. Sumedha Ghai and Dr. Shivali Sharma (Residents, Department of Ophthalmology), Shaheen Mushtaq (Refractionist) and Ateeqa Bashir (Optometrist, SDH Hazratbal).

During the camp, 161 beneficiaries were screened, and various ophthalmological conditions were diagnosed, including 36 refractive errors, 5 cataract cases, 4 diabetic retinopathy cases, and other conditions such as ptosis, strabismus, and conjunctivitis.

The camp also included educational sessions on eye care and the importance of early detection and treatment of visual impairments, as well as sensitization about stigmatization and bullying of children with vision-related disorders.

GMC Srinagar reaffirms its commitment to promoting eye health, particularly among children, through such periodic camps and awareness drives.
