Shopian/Srinagar, Oct 02: Police are conducting extensive searches in south Kashmir’s Shopian and Kulgam areas to trace out the cab driver and a woman from Srinagar who have gone missing two days back.
A police official said that they have been conducting searches in the Aharbal-Hirpora area of south Kashmir for any clue about the missing man and woman from Srinagar, news agency KNO reported.
It said even as the police have dismissed that chances of their suicide or drowning, saying in that case the bodies may have come on the surface as the water level in the streams of the area is currently very low, they have still pressed SDRF into the service to look for the missing duo in water-bodies.
The official added they have confirmed the presence of the woman along with the man in a vehicle through technical investigation.
It is pertinent to mention here that Adil Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi of Naidyar Rainawari Srinagar and a woman, who was along with him, have gone missing in Gurwatan on Kulgam-Shopian boundary two days back – September 30. The missing man’s vehicle besides a shoe and socks were found at the spot.
The police official said that the case is being investigated through all possible angles.
He requested the public to inform them in case they have any clue or information about the missing duo.
Notably, police from both Shopian and Kulgam districts are searching for them in their respective areas — Manzgam Kulgam and Hirpora Shopian.
Meanwhile, the family of the missing Adil Bashir Sofi of Naidyar, staged a protest at the Press Enclave here today.
The missing man’s sister told the media that on September 30, her brother, who is a cab driver, went missing. “At around 08:45 PM, we received a phone call from Rainawari Police Station enquiring about him. We tried to call my brother’s number, but it was switched off,” she said.
“We contacted the police and they informed us that they had found his cab near Aharbal, but it was empty. Later, we received another call from Hirpora Shopian Police Station, inquiring about the cab,” the family said, adding that when they reached there, they saw the cab inside the police station. Inside it they also found the missing man’s shoes and socks.
“We have no issues with the police; but our only concern is that no missing report has been filed by either Shopian or Rainawari police. We request the authorities to help us find our beloved, as we are extremely worried about him and do not know where he has gone,” the family demanded. (With inputs from KNO)
