ECI revises poll percentages to 57.31% for 2nd phase of assembly elections

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded an aggregate 57.31 percent voter turnout during the second phase of elections held Wednesday, with Kangan Assembly seat in Kashmir, and Mata Vishno Devi seat in Jammu region registering highest voter participation, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Friday.

The revised statistics were released by the poll body a day after the elections were conducted in six districts of the union territory including Srinagar.

While Kangan assembly segment in Ganderbal district registered the highest voter turnout in Kashmir, Khansahib area in the central Budgam district attracted the highest percentage of women votes in the second phase of the elections.

With 68.38 percent voter turnout, polling for the first phase of maiden assembly election following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was conducted on September 18.  The second phase of elections to the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly was held on September 25.

Kangan in central Ganderbal district, according to ECI statistics, recorded the highest voter turnout in Kashmir with 72.18 percent followed by 72.08 percent in Khansahib, 70.27 percent in Charar-I-Sharif, 66.95 percent in Beerwah, 57.19 percent in Chadoora and 52.27 percent in Budgam.

In Jammu, the highest voter turnout with 80.45 percent was recorded in Mata Vaishno Devi segment followed by 74. 94 percent in Surankote, 74.56 percent in Poonch Haveli, 73.60 percent in Gulabgarh, 73. 56 percent in Mendhar, 73.05 percent in Nowshera, 72.88 percent in Thanamandi, 72.06 percent in Reasi and 68.82 percent in Kalakote-Sunderbani.
