Srinagar: A team of the Enforcement unit of Legal Metrology Srinagar today booked a case against a Petrol Pump at Srinagar for delivering deficit fuel to the Consumers.

Following the surprise inspection by the officials of the Legal Metrology Department on Saturday, it was noticed that two Nozzles of the Petrol Pump were delivering less fuel by 40 ml against every 5 Litres due to which such Nozzles were seized on the spot and a fine of Rs 50,000 was realized on spot from the offender.

The Nozzles will be released only after their fresh calibration in the coming days. All the other Nozzles of this fuel station were found delivering short by at least 10 to 15 ml against every 05 litres for which the necessary rectification as required under the law have been commenced as well.

The display boards showing the quantity delivered to consumers were not matching with the actual delivery which was measured by using Standard Equipment lying with the Legal Metrology department.

The action warranted under Section 30 of the Legal Metrology Act was instantly taken against the offender after an undertaking was taken from him that such an offence would not be repeated in future.

It is pertinent to mention that accuracy in the delivery of fuel is the basic right of Consumers and any under-delivery of goods and services is a serious offence in terms of the Legal Metrology Act 2009.

In case of any doubt with respect to the quantity of fuel, the Consumers can check the delivery on their own by using the verified 5 Litre conical measure which mandatorily lies with every petrol pump.

It is a duty of every Petrol pump owner to facilitate the checking of fuel delivery to the best satisfaction of Consumers.

The Department of Legal Metrology is committed to ensuring the interest of Consumers by way of rigorous checking of the delivery across the various kinds of articles and in case of any complaint, the Consumers can lodge their complaints with the department.
