Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) president, Mohammad Altaf Bukhari Saturday said that upcoming Assembly elections in the region are aimed to reclaim the lost identity of J&K.

He said the upcoming elections are an opportunity for people of J&K to show to people of India that “we believe in democracy, and to tell BJP that we don’t want them as rulers.”

Asked about the preparations for the upcoming elections, Bukhari said that his party is only four years old, and they will accept whatever mandate people give them.

If elected to power, Bukhari said that his party will ensure all promises in their manifesto are fulfilled, including, addressing Kashmir’s power crisis, giving employment to around two lakh youths, restoring the earlier practice of ‘Darbar Move’, getting back the statehood and the rights of J&K.

For the people, Bukhari said it doesn’t matter who wins; they want representatives who could address their concerns.

Speaking about the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year, Bukhari said that he believes no political party won that election, and “only individuals who are also religious or sect leaders won the people’s mandate.”

He was referring to NC’s Mian Altaf and Aga Ruhullah who won their respective seats. Both of them, Bukhari said, have a religious standing in front of their people.
