Kulgam: CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami on Sunday said that their party promises to own your issues and speak about your problems on every possible platform, whether in the assembly or outside it.

Tarigami appealed to the youth for their support, saying that while he has long been an advocate for their rights, he cannot achieve these goals alone. He said that the CPI(M) is committed to continuing the fight for their rights, pledging to remain dedicated to their cause until his last breath.

At a rally in Okey, a Kangri village in Kulgam, the CPI(M) leader said that there is need for greater support for artisans in the area, whom he referred to as “Shakshaz.”

Tarigami said that the area has a good number of skilled potters and craftsmen and expressed concern for their livelihoods and the challenges they face. He said that he has consistently advocated for the establishment of a separate board dedicated to artisans, an initiative he has highlighted in the state assembly. Tarigami argued that artisans should be recognized as a special category and provided with government assistance to preserve and promote their traditional crafts.

Drawing a parallel between the enduring quality of earthen pots and ongoing politics, Tarigami said that just as artisans know which earthen pot lasts the longest, they also know better than anyone which politician is truly committed to healing the broken hearts.

Later, while addressing rallies in Arreh, Awhatoo, Bumrath, and Kachawhallan, Tarigami criticized the current government for its harassment of the people, saying that he aims to go to the assembly and speak vehemently against this oppressive government.

“I won’t make hollow promises to people that I will fulfill all your wishes, but I promise that I will own your issues and speak about your problems on every possible platform, whether in the assembly or outside it. I will sing the songs of my people, not dance to others’ tunes, and I will never stand with those who have caused suffering to J&K—this is my promise until eternity,” Tarigami added.

He further said that he had previously proposed harnessing the potential of the Veshow river in Kulgam for electricity generation. Although this proposal didn’t receive attention from the then government, he assured that it remains a priority for him, and he will work on it again for the benefit of Kulgam.
