Zaffar Manhas along with son resigns from AP

Srinagar: Apni Party Vice President, Zafar Iqbal Manhas, who contested Lok Sabha polls as the party’s candidate from the south Kashmir-Rajouri seat and lost, resigned from the party along with his son who too was in the party.

Confirming his resignation, Manhas said further course of action would be decided after taking feedback from his workers. However, sources said that he is likely to join Congress,

Meanwhile, sources said a workers’ meeting is going on at his residence and a final decision is expected soon.

They said Manhas will join Congress on Wednesday in the presence of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Manhas was one of the founding members of the Apni Party after he parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recently, he fought parliamentary elections on Anantnag-Rajouri seat on Apni Party ticket and finished third.

Zafar was Member of Legislative Council (MLC) when he was part of PDP and before that he was Vice-president of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL).

His son Irfan Manhas is currently Vice Chairperson of DDC Council Shopian. Meanwhile, DDC Keller 1st Ch. Fazal Din Deedad also resigned from Apni Party and is likely to join Congress as well.
