Jammu, Jun 21: A man was arrested for ruthlessly beating a widow and her daughter in Rajouri district, days after the video of the incident went viral on social media sites.

Pawan Kumar alias “Pamma”, a resident of Rajouri, was seen kicking and using a log in the assault on the two women, Sakina Begum (45) and her daughter Abida Kousar (20), in a video which went viral on social media sites on Monday, drawing strong protest from the netizens who demanded stern action against him.

“The incident had happened on June 13 and a case was registered against the accused the same day but he evaded his arrest and managed to flee the area to take shelter in Kathua district,” the police officer said.

He said the women said that they were beaten up by him for using a bathroom but the accused claimed that he acted after the mother-daughter duo allegedly roughed up his son.

He was booked under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code (applicable in Jammu and Kashmir) including 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

The investigation of the case is on, the SSP said.
