Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Pulwama and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.
He said at Washpora Murran in Pulwama, one Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar, resident of Washpora Murran, was arrested after two bottles of “contraband-like substance” were recovered from his possession, police said, adding on his disclosure, raids were conducted at multiple locations, resulting in the recovery of 66 bottles apparently containing codeine phosphate.
Consequently, two more accused persons were arrested who have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, and Liyaqat Nazir, son of Nazir Ahmad Lone, both residents of Murran. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
In Karewa, Nowpora Nagam, one Jalal-u-din Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, resident of Wampora Nagam, Budgam, was arrested after six bags (76 Kgs) of poppy straw-like substance and a digital weighing machine, were recovered from his vehicle(DL10CF-2319). The vehicle was also seized.
In Anantnag, police along with the concerned Executive Magistrate raided the residence of Abdul Hafiz Masoodi of Iram Colony, Aishmuqam, and recovered 5.3 Kgs of poppy straw from there. Masoodi was arrested.
Cases have been registered in respective police stations with regard to all these arrests, police said.
