Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference today called for an extension of the summer vacation for school-going children due to the relentless heatwave.

Echoing the concerns of parents, the party’s State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, “Despite pleas from parents amid the scorching temperatures in Kashmir, the UT administration has turned a blind eye to the requests. This unresponsive attitude from the administration is unacceptable. The heat has been unbearable for weeks and is not showing signs of improvement. Therefore the government must prioritise the well-being of students and grant them additional days off. It is crucial that the government considers the impact of the extreme weather on students’ health.”

Imran emphasized that without a conducive learning environment, students and teachers alike face challenges. “Many schools, especially government schools, lack basic amenities such as proper ventilation and fans, making students at risk of suffering heat strokes. The erratic power supply only adds to the discomfort in classrooms,” he said.

“It is imperative that the government reconsiders its stance on summer vacation and take into account the well-being of students, particularly the younger children,” Imran added.
