Baramulla: In a heartfelt tribute to the courageous soldiers of Operation VIJAY, the Dagger Division organized a grand felicitation ceremony as part of the “Kargil Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav.”
The event, held at the esteemed General Bipin Rawat Stadium, honoured the valor and sacrifice of the Indian Army during the 1999 Kargil conflict.
Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, AVSM, SM***, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, and Maj Gen RK Kakkar, YSM (Retd), inaugurated the ceremony by welcoming the participants of a commemorative bike rally. The rally, symbolizing the indomitable spirit of the soldiers, began on June 7 from Chandigarh and passed through Udhampur, Srinagar, and Baramulla, continuing its journey towards Kargil.
The Himalayan Brigade, renowned for its historical battles, including those in the Mushkoh Valley during Operation VIJAY, marked this occasion with deep pride. Amidst heartfelt emotions, the chief guest honored the families and next of kin of the fallen heroes, paying tribute to their immense sacrifices in the face of challenging weather and terrain.
The event also featured an impressive exhibition of military equipment and weaponry, organized by the Baramulla Rashtriya Rifles as part of the “Know Your Army Mela.” This exhibition aimed to educate and inspire the youth, fostering a sense of national pride and unity.
Such celebrations not only highlight the virtues of the Indian Army but also instill a profound sense of faith and reverence among the local population.
