Srinagar: Police have booked two “notorious” drug smugglers under the PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla after obtaining formal detention orders from competent authority, a police spokesperson informed Friday.

He said the “notorious” drug smugglers — Ehtisham ud Din Khan, son of Late Bahsir Ahmad of Gousia Mohalla Ladoora Watergam, and Farhat Begum alias Fancy, wife of Rayees Ahmad Khan, resident of Trikanjan Boniyar — have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act.

The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu and Central Jail Srinagar respectively.

Police said many cases are registered against them and that they were involved in promoting “drug abuse trade” by supplying drugs to local youth of Baramulla town, Kreeri, Trikanjan, Boniyar and other areas of the district. “Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not mend their activities and were involved in supplying drugs to local youth,” police said.

Meanwhile  Police have arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance and cash from his possession, a police spokesperson informed Friday.

He said at a checkpoint established at Binner-Janbazpora Crossing, police intercepted a vehicle (JK01AR-9172), and recovered 68 grams of cannabis and cash of ₹10,500, “believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime”, from its driver Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Malik, son of Abdul Aziz Malik of Binner Baramulla.

While Malik was arrested a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Baramulla for investigation.
