FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Baramulla: National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah, who is also the party’s candidate for the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, Monday said that since August 5, 2019, the people of the region have been deprived of their rights, leading to rampant unemployment and suffering.

Speaking at a public gathering in Sheeri here during a roadshow, Abdullah, accompanied by senior leader Javid Hassan Beigh, expressed concern over the plight of the people. “People of Kashmir have faced nothing but hardship, trouble, and difficulties,” he lamented.

Addressing the media, Abdullah reiterated his confidence in the NC’s chances of winning the upcoming elections. He asserted that they anticipate victory in all three seats and await the verdict of the people till June 4.

Abdullah did not mince words in accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of plunging Jammu and Kashmir into a state of political and economic crisis. He emphasized that since August 5, 2019, the region has been marred by hardship and difficulties.

Highlighting the significance of the current elections, Abdullah emphasized that they represent the first major electoral event since August 5, 2019. He urged the people to utilize this opportunity to convey their dissent through their votes, rejecting the decisions imposed upon them.

Reflecting on his decision to contest elections, Abdullah attributed it to the “interference and manipulation by the BJP”. He said that the current situation mirrors a regression to a time “before the advent of democracy under Sher-e-Kashmir, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah”.

Abdullah further accused the central government of orchestrating efforts to undermine democracy and exploit the region economically. He warned against attempts to seize land under various pretexts, leading the people towards economic servitude.

In conclusion, Abdullah reiterated the importance of safeguarding democracy and resisting attempts to erode the rights and autonomy of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
