During the rescue and search operation, four persons were rescued on Sunday – two of them in injured condition, who were subsequently hospitalized.

So far five dead bodies have been recovered while the search continues for one more person still missing, officials said.

Police said one more person is missing and search operation continues, adding that the continuous rainfall and inclement weather are hampering the search operation.

Police in Ganderbal in a statement said that, on April 28, at around 1600 hours, a vehicle Tavera (JK13B- 8950) driven by Mohammad Saleem Mir, son of Abdul Rashid Mir of Akhal Kangan, carrying non-local tourists, labourers and a local passenger while on way from Sonamarg towards Kangan skidded off the road at Gagangeer (Hung stretch) and plunged into Nallah Sindh.

Four passengers including the driver were immediately rescued, two in injured condition; four dead bodies were retrieved from the spot, while two non-local female tourists were missing. Of them one body was retrieved today while search is still on for the remaining one.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 14/2024, U/S 279, 337 IPC stands registered at PS Gund and investigation is on, police said.
