Srinagar: The plains as well as the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir received fresh spells of rain on Saturday while the weatherman here has predicted the possibility of heavy rain, thunder, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds at isolated places for the next 24 hours.

While it was raining in several parts of the UT including in Srinagar when this report was being filed, the weatherman has predicted snowfall too at higher reaches.

Officials of MeT said that on Sunday, generally cloudy weather is expected with light to moderate rain and snow in higher reaches at many places and the possibility of heavy rain, thunder, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds are expected at isolated places.

They said that on April 15 & 16, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy with the possibility of light rain and snow in higher reaches at many places.

KNO quoted MeT authorities saying that on April 17-18, generally dry weather with late thundershower activity is expected at few places and that on April 19-20, it would be partly cloudy with light rain and snow at many places from the 19th evening to the 20th morning.

They said that from April 21st to 23rd, generally dry weather with thundershower activity can’t be ruled out.

In its detailed advisory, the MeT department said that farmers are advised to suspend farm operations till April 16th.

Citing temporary disruption of surface transportation over a few higher reaches during April 13-14, the officials said that travellers & tourists are advised to plan accordingly.

“Temporary water logging is expected in few low-lying areas and also there is a possibility of landslides, mudslides and shooting stones,” the officials said.
