Srinagar: In light of recent criticisms regarding the pace of work on various projects in Srinagar, the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) has issued a comprehensive rebuttal, highlighting significant progress and reaffirming their commitment to timely completion.

According to SSCL officials, the organization is currently overseeing the implementation of 168 projects, with 90 already completed, amounting to approximately 450 crore rupees. Moreover, 68 projects are currently underway, with an estimated worth of 490 crore rupees. Notably, SSCL’s focus on revitalizing downtown Srinagar includes extensive public space and street improvement initiatives spanning over 25 kilometres.

One of the flagship projects, the renovation of Habba Kadal, has recently been inaugurated, showcasing SSCL’s dedication to enhancing urban infrastructure in the heart of Srinagar. SSCL emphasizes that all ongoing projects are progressing according to schedule and are anticipated to be finalized before June 2024.

Officials stress the meticulous planning and diligent execution of SSCL works, which encompass not only road surfaces but also vital infrastructure elements such as drainage, sewerage, communications, and electricity. These efforts aim to enhance residents’ quality of life in the long term, despite potential short-term inconveniences during construction.

Addressing specific concerns raised in the recent news article, SSCL highlights the significant progress on projects such as the DalGate Gojwara road and street improvements in Bohri Kadal, Maharaj Bazaar, and Ali Kadal areas. These projects, collectively valued at over 75 crore rupees, are reported to be over 60% complete and are on track for completion by June 2024.

Crucially, SSCL assures residents that all necessary precautions are being taken to minimize disruptions during project execution. Local cooperation is sought with the assurance that projects are time-bound and will be finalized by the end of June this year.
