Srinagar, June 12: A peaceful sit-in protest outside Civil Secretariat will be held by Teachers Joint Action Committee (TJAC), an amalgam of various teachers’ unions, tomorrow against government alleged ‘failure’ to fulfill SSA teacher’s demands.

“If SSA teachers could receive sixth pay Commission arrears and other benefits from the government including promotions then what makes the government to exempt them from seventh pay commission,” Abdul Qayoom Wani, senior trade leader and TJAC Chairman told ‘Kashmir Images’.

He claimed that SSA teachers refused to receive salary for the month of April which according to him was not released as per seventh pay commission rules.

Wani said keeping in the view these aggravating issues; the amalgam has decided to hold a peaceful sit-in outside civil Secretariat tomorrow at 11.30 in the morning to press for what he termed ‘legitimate’ demands of SSA teachers. He said hundred senior leaders from all three regions of the state will join the sit-in.

He said the program will be intensified after Eid incase the government again overlooked the genuine issues of protesting SSA teachers.

“Isn’t government forcing them to come on roads? Isn’t this injustice? SSA teachers were engaged in education department sixteen years ago and were accordingly promoted from time to time, now the government is claiming that they are yet to be regularized,” Wani said.

Wani while appealing Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to address the genuine issues of SSA teachers claimed that CM has been mislead vis-à-vis demands.

“Government was supposed to release 170 crore for disbursement of salaries while as only 143 crore rupees were released. Had government directed to release appropriate amount one big issue of SSA teachers would have been resolved,” he said.

Wani who also heads Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) demanded that the salaries of SSA teachers be de-linked with state sector besides the issues they confront be addressed without forcing them to hit streets.
