Laylat-al-Qadr, The Night of Power, is the most venerated night of the Islamic calendar. During this night, Angel Jibril revealed the Holy Qur’an’s first verses to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This night falls within Ramadan’s final 10 days, and although the exact date is unidentified, it is commonly thought of as the Holy month’s 27th night. However, the believers are advised to seek this night in the last 10 odd nights of Ramadan, following the example of the Prophet (PBUH). It is reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said:

“Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten days of Ramadan.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

While the administration shut down Srinagar’s Jama Masjid, people had started assembling at Dargah Hazratbal, Jinab Sahab Soura, Chrar-e-Sharief besides the local masjids in the late evening for night long prayers.

In most of the mosques and shrines, the devotees will pray till Sehri.

Meanwhile, Lt Governor and several political leaders have greeted people on the auspicious occasion.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has extended his heartiest greetings to the people on Shab-e-Qadr.

In a message, the LG said: “On the holy occasion of Shab-e-Qadr, I extend my hearty greetings and best wishes to all. The sacred night symbolizes the spirit of selfless giving, forgiveness, sharing, compassion and divinity. May the almighty accept all our prayers on this blessed night, strengthen our faith and inspire each one of us to follow the path of love and harmony.”

Vice President of National Conference, Omar Abdullah, JKPC President, Sajad Gani Lone, Apni Party President, Syed Altaf Bukhari, PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti and several other leaders have also extended greetings to the people.
