Manipur dominates Taolu events, North States vie for top spot

Khelo India Sub-Junior and Junior National League Wushu Championship

Jammu: In the ongoing Khelo India Sub-Junior and Junior National League Wushu Championship, Manipur showcased its dominance in the Taolu events, while states from the North, including Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Uttar Pradesh (UP), and Rajasthan, are fiercely competing for the top slot in the Sanda category.

A total of Rs. 22 lakh in cash prizes will be distributed among the top 8 winners of the Sub-Junior and Junior National League Wushu Championship. The prize distribution includes Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000, Rs. 10,000, Rs. 5,000, Rs. 5,000, Rs. 5,000, and Rs. 5,000 respectively.

During the presentation ceremony held today, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Wazir-IPS distributed the cash prizes among the deserving winners. He commended the Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir for organizing this grand event in the Union Territory. He expressed gratitude to the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), and the Wushu Association of India for entrusting the responsibility of hosting the event to the Wushu Association of J&K.

SSP Sandeep Wazir also praised the J&K Sports Council for its efforts in enhancing sports infrastructure across the Union Territory and promoting sports in every corner. He emphasized the importance of promoting female athletes across all sports, applauding the initiative of the Sports Authority of India. He expressed confidence that with such concerted efforts, India would emerge as a powerhouse in sports in the years to come.

Medals and cash prizes were presented to the winners during the felicitation function, attended by notable figures including Sh. Suhel Ahmed, Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee), Sarika, Sajad Hyder, and Bhavneet (General Secretary, Wushu Association of J&K).

The closing ceremony of the Khelo India Sub-Junior National Wushu League is scheduled to take place at Indoor Hall Bhagwati Nagar Jammu on March 31st at 12 noon. Sh. Rajesh Sharma, Chairman of the Sports Authority of India, will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
