During the year, the Handwara Police registered a total of 50 cases under the NDPS Act, showcasing a proactive approach to address the illicit drug trade. Among these cases, 48 were diligently challaned, ensuring legal actions against the offenders. This robust enforcement underscores the department’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and curbing the illegal drug trade within the community.

Furthermore, the Handwara Police successfully seized substances with an estimated value of one crore, highlighting their efficacy in intercepting and preventing the distribution of narcotics. This substantial accomplishment not only disrupts the supply chain of illegal drugs but also serves as a deterrent to potential offenders.

In a strategic move to address the root causes of the drug trade, the Handwara Police attached three properties with an estimated combined worth of 7 crores. This approach aims to undermine the financial foundations of those involved in the illicit drug business, sending a clear message that authorities will not tolerate such activities.

Emphasizing the ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, SSP Handwara underscored the collaborative role of the community in creating a safer and drug-free environment. The achievements of the Handwara Police in 2023 reflect a dedicated and measured approach to tackling the complex issue of drug abuse, with a focus on maintaining the well-being and safety of the community.
