Srinagar: Police on Sunday claimed to have cracked a murder case in Zaloora Sopore — saying that the victim was murdered by his wife with the active support of her paramour.

Addressing a presser at Police Station Bomai, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sopore, Shabir Nawab said that on Friday morning, the family of Reyaz Ahmed Mir (48) of Zaloora village, filed a missing report about Reyaz having gone missing.

His wife, Shaista, accompanied by some relatives and neighbours, stated that during the preceding night (November 30 and December 01 December) her husband Riyaz Ahmad Mir had gone outside his house and had not returned since.

During subsequent searches by the police, the dead-body of Mir was recovered from the sewage trench inside the yard of his home, police said.

Police retrieved the body from the trench, and upon examination it was evident that it was a case of murder.

The body was taken for medico-legal formalities to Sub District Hospital Sopore and during investigations it came to fore that Mir’s wife was having an extra-marital affair with one Waseem Akram Lone, son of Farooq Ahmad Lone, resident of Tujjer.

During questioning, Shaista confessed that she along with Waseem Akram Lone had killed her husband during the night and concealed his dead body in the trench. Lone also confessed his involvement in the crime. Both have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.

The “equipment” used in the commission of the crime has been recovered and further investigation is going on, police said.

With regard to this case, the SSP also said that a few “news portals” who are involved in “media trial” of the children of the affected family, besides creating hindrances in the investigations at the crime scene; they should desist from it.

“There will be strict action against such portals,” he warned.

Pertinently, DIPR Baramulla has also asked the media outlets/portals to delete the content to prevent further harm to the affected children. “The unethical reporting over the unfortunate murder in Zaloora (Sopore) wherein the sentiments and statements of the children of deceased are misinterpreted is deeply worrying. Media outlets should adhere to ethical conduct and standards keeping in view the integrity and rights of vulnerable individuals,” it said.

It’s noteworthy that the victim has four children – three daughters and a son.
