Srinagar: Director School Education Kashmir, Tassaduq Hussain Mir, Thursday said the matter of winter vacations for primary classes in Kashmir is under active consideration of the administration and that a formal announcement in this regard would be made shortly.
Director Education’s comments come a day after the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said the decision on winter vacations for kindergarten and primary classes in Kashmir will be taken in a day or two given the abrupt change in weather conditions.
“The higher-ups of the administration have already discussed the matter, and news about it has been released. The government is well aware of the current circumstances and the administration is actively considering the situation,” Director Education said in response to a query on when the administration will announce winter vacations for elementary classes.
He said the authorities have to consider various aspects of the academic session before taking any decision in this regard.
“As of now we don’t have severe cold in Kashmir; had the situation been really so severe, then of course the kids would not have been coming to schools,” he said.
“We have to address learning gaps as well; the rules have to be taken care of. Since elementary class students are required to get 220 academic days to complete their academic session, those in higher grades receive 200 days. We are sensitive to the situation and a decision will be taken soon,” he added.
