He said the area has been cordoned off and searches started to nab the attackers.

Soon after the attack, groups of youth resorted to stone pelting resulting into clashes. Sources said that police and security forces resorted to tear smoke shelling and the clashes were going on when this report was being filed.

In another incident, four paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured when militants hurled a grenade at Tahab village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.

Sources said that around 4:45 pm militants lobbed a grenade towards CRPF deployed in Tahab Chowk, leaving four forces personnel injured. Three civilians too were injured in the attack, added the sources.

The injured CRPF men were identified as AC Anuj Patik, Ct. Sumit Kumar, Ct. Sunbir Singh and Ct. Suresh Kumar.

The injured civilians were identified as Shagufta Jan, 27, of Litter, Fiza Jan, 12, of Washbug and Arshid Ahmad.

Militants have carried out a series of grenade attacks on security forces and politicians since last week.

Police on Monday claimed to have detected an IED on Nathipora- Wadoora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

SSP Sopore Javaid Iqbal told local news agency GNS that the government forces detected the IED placed on roadside by militants in the area.

Later, the IED was defused by Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) without causing any damage, the SSP said.

However, some reports suggested that the IED was triggered damaging a police vehicle carrying detenues from District Jail Kupwara to Sopore Court.

No injuries, however, were reported.
