Baramulla: A recent complaint filed at police station Kunzer has unveiled a case of alleged impersonation and fraudulent activities, leading to the arrest of an individual posing as a CBI officer.

The complaint was lodged by Farooq Ah Wani, a resident of Wassun Bangil, revealing a complex web of deceit involving several individuals – Javeed Ahmed Rather, Anjuman Afreen, Aaqib Ah Wani, and Rafeeq Ah Wani.

At the center of the controversy is the primary accused, Javeed Ahmed Rather, who purportedly presented himself as a CBI officer, displaying what was later discovered to be a falsified CBI identification card. Leveraging this deceitful persona, Javeed allegedly claimed high-ranking connections within esteemed organizations such as the NDA (National Defence Academy) and Bharat Petroleum. Assurances were made to the complainant, promising a secure placement for their child at the NDA.

The intricate scheme unfolded through various email exchanges purportedly managed by Javeed Ahmad, where the accused enticed the complainant with ambassador cards from Bharat Petroleum and even offered a property prospect in Saudi Arabia, intricately crafting an illusion of credibility.

However, as the situation progressed, the accused individuals purportedly resorted to theft, making away with multiple household items, including a geyser, bedsheet, inverter, CCTV camera, LCD, and other valuables from the complainant’s residence. Moreover, the complainant allegedly suffered a financial loss, reportedly defrauded of a significant sum totaling 40 Lac rupees.

Swift and decisive action by the law enforcement team at the Police Station Kunzer led to the apprehension of the individual posing as a CBI officer. The arrest resulted in the recovery of falsified documents, notably the purported CBI card.

The authorities have registered a case under FIR No. 120/2023, invoking sections 419, 420, and 379 of the Indian Penal Code. An extensive investigation is actively underway, emphasizing the commitment to achieving justice and resolution in this matter.
