Handwara, Oct 23: A 37-year-old man died and another was hospitalised after they were caught under a sand mound which caved in the Langate area of Handwara, officials said.

They said that one Abdul Hamid Sheikh, son of Khazir Mohammad and Shabir Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar were moving sand when they were trapped under a sand mound at Watnar Shanoo.

“Local people after strenuous efforts rescued them and took the duo to District Hospital Handwara where Abdul Hamid Sheikh was declared as brought dead on arrival,” they said.

The other person remains hospitalised, they said.

Police said they have taken cognisance of the incident. (GNS)
