Srinagar: Police in Budgam said it has busted a notorious gang of burglars and recovered a large quantity of stolen property from their possession.
Sharing details, a police spokesperson said that acting on a complaint of theft in Khansahib area during intervening night of 19-20 October, police after registering a case, rounded up some suspects for questioning.
With the help of technical and human resources, police zeroed in on one Farooq Ahmad Ganie, alias Dil Jalay, son of Ghulam Ahmad Ganai of Kachpuran. During questioning, his involvement was established and he was arrested. On his disclosure stolen items including copper utensils, clothing, artificial jewellery and gold articles were recovered, police said.
During further questioning, he disclosed the names of his accomplices involved in other similar thefts, following which Asif Rashid Mir, also known as Ubaid, son of Abdul Rashid Mir of Dabipora, and Maqsood Ahmad Gojri, son of Ghulam Hassan Gojri of Soznipora were arrested.
On their disclosure, stolen property including laptops, desktops, LED screens, gas cylinders, livestock (sheep), copper utensils, inverters, batteries, generator, water motor and pipes, collectively valued at approximately Rs 4-5 lakhs were recovered.
One more suspected person Showkat Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Rawalpora Watrihail was also arrested in connection with his involvement as receiver of the stolen property, police said.
