Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday said the unemployment crisis in J&K is deepening with each passing day, chasing the incumbent bureaucratic administration of wasting the demographic dividend of educated, and skilled youth.

This was, according to the NC spokesperson, stated by party Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq while interacting with a youth delegation here at the party headquarters in Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar.

The visiting delegation comprised educated and skilled youth from different parts of the Kashmir division. They apprised the Spokesperson about various compelling issues faced by them, particularly unemployment.

Interacting with the delegation, Tanvir said that the party leadership is aware of the suffering of J&K youth. “Worn down by years of fruitless attempts to acquire government employment, our educated, and skilled youth are facing a job crisis, which is more serious than it seems,” Sadiq said, adding that the depth of suffering of J&K’s youth is immeasurable.

The reason behind the scathing unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir, he stated is due to the lapse on behalf of the incumbent J&K administration in recapitalising the job-creating sectors in Jammu and Kashmir like tourism, horticulture, agriculture, handicrafts and MSMEs. Issues confronted by these sectors, he contended, have been left unattended.

“Poor recruitment process in JKPSC and JKSSB has further made the entire scenario exceedingly bleak. The incumbent bureaucratic setup in J&K has failed to acknowledge the centre of energy in our educated and skilled youth bulge, who are crucial to J&K’s future growth trajectories. Even in the case of self-employment generation, the incumbent administration has failed in creating avenues for those youth, who want to set up their own enterprises. ‘Mission Youth’ and several other programmes are also non-starters in J&K. The August 2019 policy of GOI with regards to J&K, successive Covid-induced lockdowns, absence of Covid sustenance and revival package has only deepened the crisis which had been incubated by the implementation of hasty and unwise GST and demonetisation in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Echoing the sentiments of the visiting youth delegation, Tanvir said that the Party leaders and Members of Parliament are leaving no stone unturned to raise the compelling issues confronted by our youth at every appropriate forum. He said that the party functionaries are making the best use of press and social media platforms to raise different issues confronted by our youth.
