Stanford University Rankings-2023 – Sons of soil elevate KU’s status, contribute to scientific advancement: VC

Srinagar: In an extraordinary display of academic excellence, 11 scientists from the University of Kashmir (KU) have garnered international recognition and accolades.

The latest rankings released by Stanford University, one of the world’s foremost academic institutions, for the year 2023, have highlighted these scientists as distinguished contributors to the realm of research, placing them in the top 2% globally.

The Stanford University rankings, known for their rigorous evaluations considering factors such as research publications, citations and exceptional contributions to their respective fields, have underscored the remarkable achievements of these scientists from the region – a testament to the exceptional caliber of scientists from Jammu and Kashmir, earning a place on the list.

In a statement, Prof Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir said, “The sons of the soil have not only elevated the status of the University of Kashmir but have also significantly contributed to the advancement of their respective fields.”

The University of Kashmir has not only witnessed a significant rise in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking to the 33rd position but has also seen the number of scientists featured in the prestigious Stanford University rankings increase from 9 in 2022 to an impressive 11 in 2023.

The scientists who have achieved this prestigious recognition include Prof Farooq Ahmad Masoodi, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Prof Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Prof Ghulam Jeelani, Dr Adil Gani, Dr Idrees Ahmed Wani, Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah, Dr Imtiaz Ahmed, Dr Sheikh Faheem, Dr Manzoor Ahmad Mir and Dr Firdous Ahmad Shah.

“The recognition of the University of Kashmir by Stanford University is a testament to our unwavering commitment to academic excellence and research innovation,” Prof Nilofer Khan said in the statement.

The Vice Chancellor’s commitment to research and innovation has played a pivotal role in fostering an environment where scientists thrive and achieve global recognition.

Expressing his delight, the Registrar of the University of Kashmir, Dr Nisar A Mir said, “The University of Kashmir takes immense pride in celebrating these accomplishments and we are committed to providing a nurturing environment for cutting-edge research and academic excellence in the future.”

The University of Kashmir’s exceptional achievement on the global stage serves as an inspiration not only to the academic community but also to the entire region.

This recognition highlights the importance of fostering an environment where dedication, innovation and scholarly excellence can flourish.
