J&K is now on global tourism map, providing plethora of investment opportunities: LG

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today interacted with the members of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) -Greater India Chapter at Srinagar and discussed the business opportunities in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir, an official press release informed.

It said in his address, the LG highlighted the “extraordinary transformation of J&K under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the fastest expansion of its economy” within a few years.

“We have transformed decades of damage and destruction into prosperity; created an environment for people to live life on their own terms, provided the right condition for businesses and start-ups to flourish and right opportunities for entrepreneurs to convert their ideas into profitable businesses,” the LG said.

“Jammu & Kashmir is also a byword for socio-economic miracle today. The UT is providing a plethora of investment opportunities in different sectors and offering best incentives to investors,” he said.

During the interaction, the LG responded to the queries and shared the “unprecedented” progress registered in diverse sectors.

“J&K is now on the global tourism map. Till September this year 1.67 Cr tourists visited the UT and the number of foreign tourists has gone up by 350 percent in comparison to last year,” he said.

He appreciated the young industry leaders for their contribution in the country’s growth and unwavering commitment to give back to the society and invited them to become the partners in development journey of Jammu & Kashmir.

Members of YPO and young industry stalwarts, present on the occasion, also shared the experience of their visit to the Union Territory, the press release said.

LG flags off walkathon to celebrate Wildlife Week

‘J&K admin committed to wildlife conservation, protection of rich ecological heritage’

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the ‘Walk for Wildlife’ walkathon here on Saturday as a part of the ongoing ‘Wildlife Week 2023’.

Prominent citizens, wildlife conservationists and eco-club members participated in the five-km long walkathon from the Police Golf Course on Boulevard Road to Nishat Bagh here along with NCC cadets, volunteers and students, an official press release informed.

It said the walkathon was organised by the Wildlife Protection Department to spread awareness of wildlife conservation.

The LG in his address reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s commitment to the cause of wildlife conservation, protection of the unique and rich ecological heritage, pursuit of economic growth and preservation of the environment by striking the right balance.

Sinha called for community-led conservation of the biodiversity and protection of wildlife.

“It is our collective responsibility to strengthen the ecological integrity, restore the original glory of our rivers, lakes and protect our forests from the smugglers and poachers,” he said.

Sinha said that every citizen, including the youth, should become friends with the wildlife and environment, and also spread awareness in society on adopting a sustainable lifestyle.

He shared the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir administration under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance for the integrated development of wildlife habitats and the promotion of eco-tourism and green economy.

The Hangul Breeding Centre in Tral, languishing since 2008, has been revived and completed this year, said Sinha.

The population of Hangul has seen an increase and two more RAMSAR sites (wetlands of international importance) were added in 2022, he added.

The LG further said more than 13 lakh migratory birds were sighted last year.

Sinha appreciated the initiatives taken by the Wildlife Protection Department for the mitigation of man-animal conflict, and the safety of human lives, their property and livestock.

He also released a short film “J&K: Wildlife Chronicles” and a poster of the Wildlife Protection Department on the occasion.

Aftab Malik, chairman, DDC Srinagar; A.K. Choudhary, Special DG Crime; Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary, Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to LG; Roshan Jaggi, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests;  senior officers and citizens from all walks of life were present.
