J&K cop dies in Mumbai, family cries foul play

Srinagar: Family of a young cop, who died “mysteriously” in Mumbai a few days ago, has demanded a thorough probe into the “inexplicable” death of their kin.

The dead body of the deceased cop — 28-years old Auqib Khurshid Mir, son of Khurshid Ahmad Mir — reached his home in Hassanabad, Rainwari, two days after his mysterious death in Mumbai. His family said he was posted at Cyber Crime wing of J&K Police and had gone to Mumbai for a drone-pilot training course.

The family has appealed to the administration to order a thorough probe so the air on the mysterious death of their son is cleared.

“He had gone to Mumbai for a drone-pilot course, and a few days back we received a phone call informing us about his death. There were deep wounds on his entire body and his back too was broken. It seems he was either pushed from some building or had suffered a fall to death,” a close relative of the deceased cop said.

Auqib, he said, was married only a year back. He was posted at Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar.

“We want an in-depth enquiry into the mysterious death of our son so the doubts are cleared whether he was pushed or had suffered an accidental fall,” he added.

A senior police official however told ‘Kashmir Images’ that the postmortem of the deceased has been conducted and that mystery into his sudden death will end as soon as the postmortem report is received.

He was, however, quick to add that Auqib had not applied for official leave nor had he informed his seniors about his Mumbai visit.
