Srinagar: Two students of Army Goodwill School in Bandipora, a border district of north Kashmir, have brought laurels to their frontier town by excelling in the UT Level Chess Championship held recently at Srinagar.

Muhammad of Army Goodwill School, Bandipora, won the third position in the championship. Fatima, a student of the same school, surpassed all expectations and ranked number one in the chess championship.

Fatima is sharp in her studies and loves drawing, while Muhammad loves sports. Both these students will now participate in the National Chess Championship.

The sterling performance of the students is a source of huge joy for all residents of Bandipora. This border district did not get the attention that it deserved before the abrogation of Article 370.

Bandipora is situated at a distance of about 75 kilometers from Srinagar. For centuries, Bandipora was called the land of Alim, Adab, and Aab, meaning Education, Literate, and Water. However, the high esteem associated with Bandipora has dimmed over the last three decades due to political neglect.

It is a source of joy and pride for the local residents that during the last few years, Bandipora has surged ahead. The district is witnessing a new dawn of development. The Army Goodwill School at Bandipora has played a pivotal role in ensuring quality education for the children of this remote district. Due to the sustained efforts of the staff and the management of Army Goodwill School at Bandipora, children from the school are now winning accolades at various levels.
