Srinagar: As the elections for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil are being held on September 10 this year, the campaign in going in full swing with National Conference (NC) and Indian National Congress (INC) all set to take BJP head-on.

The voting will be held for 26 segments while as four seats are reserved for women and minority (two each) and will be filled through nomination.

The campaign is going on smoothly and I am sure that INC-NC combine would rest all the seats, said Nasir Munshi, INC’s Kargil district president and party’s spokesperson.

He himself is contesting from Choskore segment.

He said that both INC and NC are busy in campaigning and that he is confident that the combine will have a landslide victory.

disclosed that on some seats INC has already entered into a pre-poll alliance with NC while as on some other seats we may have friendly contest.

Sources said that a total of 89 candidates are in the poll fray of the 5th general elections of the Hill Council Kargil.

“Of 89 candidates 17 belong to the National Conference, 9 to Indian National Congress (INC), 17 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 4 from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and 42 are independent candidates,” the officials said.

They said that for the first time, the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) is being used for the LAHDC Kargil elections.

It may be recalled here that in the previous LAHDC elections, ballot boxes were used.

All the political parties and independent candidates have started door-to-door campaigning.

“Our alliance has announced candidates, of which 17 belong to NC and 9 to INC. Our candidates are contesting at all 26 seats. We are ready to win with an absolute majority,” NC President district unit Kargil Haji Hanifa told KNO.

He stated that both INC and NC are busy with the preparations to ensure all candidates win.

Nasir Munshi, INC Spokesperson who is also a contesting candidate said that all of them are busy with the campaign.
