Director said that the department is endeavoring to ensure that only quality seed reaches the farming community of the region. “We are pursuing a plan to achieve self-reliance in seed production and departmental farms are of pivotal importance in this direction,” he added.

He asked the officers to put in all the efforts so that not only the local potato requirement is fulfilled but potato from Kashmir is supplied to different parts of the country.

The director of Agriculture said that the department has strengthened the marketing mechanism of the different agricultural crops in the last two years. He asked young agri-preneurs to come forward and take potato cultivation on commercial lines. There is a great scope for value addition of this crop, he added.

He said in the coming days potato would be one of the significant contributors to the agriculture economy of Jammu & Kashmir. He said the agro-climatic conditions are so conducive that we could produce all the important varieties of potato in the valley.

The Director of Agriculture appreciated the efforts of the technical staff for their outstanding work in achieving the transformation of these departmental farms on the latest scientific lines.
