Car-borne Man Arrested for Allegedly Molesting, Injuring Girl in Srinagar

Srinagar: Police have arrested a man for molesting and injuring a girl after offering her a ride in his car, while another man was arrested for trying to murder his son by stabbing him here this afternoon.

Police said that one Uzair Hameed Mir, son of Abdul Hameed Mir of Daulatabad area of Khanyar, attempted to molest a girl after offering her a ride in his car. However, when the victim resisted, Mir pushed her out of his car, leaving her injured before fleeing from the scene.

A police official said the accused has been arrested and the victim was shifted to the hospital for treatment and her statement has been recorded. The condition of the victim was said to be stable.

Confirming the incident, Station House Officer (SHO) Rainawari, Syed Junaid told ‘Kashmir Images’ that the victim was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment and is stable. He said the car used by the accused has also been seized.

He said the accused has been arrested and a formal case under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Rainawari police station in this regard and further investigations initiated.

Earlier Srinagar police on its official twitter handle said “One molester namely Uzair Hameed Mir S/o Abdul Hameed Mir R/o Daulatabad Khanyar arrested for molesting and injuring a girl. He gave lift to the victim, tried to molest & when the girl resisted he threw her from the car. FIR in stringent sections registered in Rainawari PS. Car also seized,”

Meanwhile, a man in his 50’s was arrested for allegedly attempting to murder his son at his residence in Sonwar area of Srinagar this afternoon.

The accused, identified as Mehmood Ahmad Wani, son of Nazir Ahmad Wani of Sonwar Srinagar, was arrested after the latter stabbed his son with a knife, leaving him critically injured. Police said the incident took place following a verbal altercation between the father and son over a family feud.

The victim, police said, was immediately evacuated to a hospital for treatment and is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) at Ram Munshibagh police station. Police have also recovered a knife (weapon of offense) from the site.
