Srinagar: Vajr Division flagged off a mountaineering expedition to Vajra Top, the highest feature of Chinar Corps, at an altitude of 18044 Ft.

“The team comprising 15 climbers would summit the majestic feature commemorating Azadi ka Mahotsava and Nation’s 76th Independence Day. The team of climbers would also get rocks and soil from Vajr Top as a contribution to ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’. The confidence and excitement of the team were electrifying and infectious. GOC Vajr Division conveyed his good wishes to the team and exhorted them to keep the spirit of adventure alive and carry the Nation’s Flag to even greater heights,” said PRO (Defence), Srinagar.

“Flag Off Ceremony was conducted in the backdrop of two days long Jashn-e-Gurez, which witnessed unprecedented tourist footfall and adventure sports such as Para Motor, Kishanganga River Rafting, and Hot Air Ballooning,” the PRO said.

“The event was also a precursor to the inauguration of ‘Shinon Meeras- Shina Cultural Centre’, in the coming weeks, which has been conceived and established by the Indian Army in collaboration with civil administration and J&K Tourism to preserve, promote and celebrate the unique culture, traditions, and identity of Dard-Shina People. The sense of anticipation for the inauguration was palpable amongst the crowd,” he said.

“Gurez is unique in its symbiotic relationship between Indian Army and the people, as also synergy amongst stakeholders. This sentiment was evident during the ceremony,” he added.
