Insha Shabir, 27, a resident of Anantnag, popularly known as ‘insha_artworks’ on social media, has been doing resin art since 2020 when she got admitted for a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts at the University of Kashmir.

There are many artists in kashmir who are already involved in traditional art like sketching, painting, calligraphy etc. However, Resin Art is a completely new form of art in kashmir “So, I developed a keen interest to learn the art, and now I have started earning by selling my resin products,” says Shabir.

Social media platforms have played a pivotal role in the success of resin art in Kashmir. By posting high-quality photographs and videos of their resin art pieces, artists have managed to generate significant interest and intrigue among potential buyers.

“Social media is one of my main selling platforms, I make 90% of sales through it, it is the most convenient and user-friendly selling platform, It helps my products reach the target audience and increase the visibility,” says Shabir.

This emerging art involves the use of epoxy resin, a versatile and glossy material that can be mixed with various pigments, glitters, and other additives to produce stunning artwork.

Nazima Bashir, 26, a resident of Srinagar, popularly known as ‘Ayulkaar’ on social media has been doing resin art since 2022.

Though resin art can be turned into a full-time career it comes with a set of challenges. “Resin needs suitable temperature to cure and can’t be produced during winters thus can affect one’s business,” says Bashir.

The art requires adequate investment to create a properly ventilated studio space, and purchase molds, tools, and other protective gear.

“Resin is a very dangerous chemical and can affect one’s health if proper protective gear isn’t used,” says Bashir.

The allure of resin art lies not only in its visual appeal but also in its versatility. Resin art pieces can be transformed into wall hangings, coasters, jewelry, and decorative items, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences. Moreover, the durability and long-lasting nature of resin art has contributed to its popularity, making it a cherished and valuable investment for art collectors.
