Srinagar: In the bustling city of Srinagar, three young and talented individuals have embarked on a journey that merges artistry with the written word, giving life to mesmerizing calligraphy and intricate designs. Meet Munaza, Tahoor, and Saaneya – the trailblazers who have found their passion and purpose in the world of penmanship and art.

At just 23 years old, Munaza stands as a prominent figure in the world of calligraphy. A self-taught artist, she has mastered the art of Arabic, Persian, and English calligraphy, leaving her unique brush strokes on diverse mediums, from walnut wooden plates to T-shirts and mugs. But what sets her apart is her specialty in using Alcohol-based inks, making her the second artist in Kashmir to embrace this ink form. In 2020, Munaza transformed her passion into a thriving business on Instagram, where her work has attracted a loyal clientele, predominantly composed of women. Safeguarding the sacred verses inscribed on her products, Munaza personally handles shipping, ensuring the utmost respect and reverence.

For Tahoor Aijaz, a 19-year-old aficionado of Arabic and English calligraphy, his artistic journey began with an infatuation for headlines in Urdu newspapers during his childhood. Now a student of Arts, he found his calling in calligraphy in 2019, and since then, he has been perfecting his strokes and forms. Setting up an online calligraphy supplies store, Tahoor aims to introduce the beauty of handmade products to a community that, at times, underestimates the value of artistry. Fueled by his passion and commitment, he strives to educate the masses about the true essence of calligraphy and the dedication required to excel in this art form.

Completing this trio of talented artists is Saaneya Ameen, a 21-year-old Computer Science student hailing from Nagbal Ganderbal. Her artistic journey began when she stumbled upon a captivating art-making video on Instagram, igniting a love for Mandalas – circular abstract designs with intricate patterns. Gradually, her interests expanded to encompass Arabic calligraphy, and she now possesses mastery over “Thuluth” and “Kufi” scripts. Eschewing the use of multiple colors, Saaneya’s minimalist approach relies on the elegance of black ink, creating breathtaking artwork without the assistance of stencils. Her clientele comprises art enthusiasts, students, and even couples who seek customized creations to adorn their special moments.

While these three artists have found immense joy and fulfillment in their respective calligraphic journeys, they also express their concern over the increasing number of self-proclaimed calligraphers flooding social media platforms. With an emphasis on learning and practicing the art to truly grasp its depth and significance, Munaza, Tahoor, and Saaneya believe that calligraphy is not merely about designing but about each stroke carrying adeptness and respect for the sacred verses they inscribe.

The world of calligraphy and artistry beckons, inviting all to delve into the captivating beauty of penmanship and creative expression. As these young artists passionately craft their masterpieces, they hope to inspire others to explore the endless possibilities of the written word and art, breathing life into strokes that transcend beyond paper and canvas.
