Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have arrested two drug smugglers including a “notorious” drug smuggler and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Friday.
They said police arrested a “notorious” drug smuggler Bashir Ahmad Malla, son of Abdul Razak Malla, resident of Dhobiwan Kunzer, at a checkpoint at Kharkal Lolpora after they intercepted a vehicle (DL8CQ-4861). During the search, 19.5 kg of poppy straw-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. The vehicle was also seized, police said.
At Trikanjan Boniyar, police intercepted two suspicious persons who on noticing the police party tried to flee from the spot. While one among them identified as Imran Ahmad Abbasi, son of Late Mohammad Yaseen, resident of Nowshera, presently residing at Boniyar, was arrested another person managed to escape, police said.
They said 35 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the arrested person.
Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations and an investigation has been initiated, police said.
