Baramulla: In a significant breakthrough, Baramulla Police successfully dismantled a prostitution racket operating in the town, by arresting six individuals, including two females.

The operation was initiated based on credible information received by Baramulla Police from reliable sources, indicating the involvement of certain individuals in immoral activities within a rented house near the Bus Stand area of Baramulla. During the raid, the police apprehended the alleged mastermind of the racket, Lateef Ahmad Chechi, son of Mohammad Younis Chechi from Malangam Bandipora, who was the tenant of the house. Additionally, Altaf Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar from Kralhar Baramulla, Khurshid Ahmad Chechi, son of Abdul Rashid Chechi from Malangam Bandipora, and Manzoor Ahmad Khan, son of Saifuddin Khan from Qazi Hamam Baramulla, were also taken into custody. The two female sex workers involved in the illegal activities have been detained, with their identities being withheld for legal reasons, the official sources said.

Following the successful operation, a case, FIR No. 136/2023, has been registered at Police Station Baramulla under sections 3, 4, and 8 of the Illicit Trafficking Prevention Act. The police have vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter to uncover any potential links to larger criminal networks and ensure all perpetrators involved in this illicit trade are brought to justice.

“In light of this incident, the Baramulla Police urge all citizens who have rented out their houses, rooms, or shops to conduct proper tenant verification. This step is crucial to prevent illegal activities from taking place within their properties and to contribute to maintaining the safety and well-being of the community,” a police spokesman said.
