Srinagar equals hottest June day in decade at 35°C

Srinagar: The sweltering heat continued in Kashmir Valley as Srinagar experienced its hottest day of the season and equaled warmest June day in a decade on Friday.

A Meteorological department official said the maximum temperature in Srinagar went up to 35.0°C and it was 5.8°C above normal for the season.

Today’s temperature surpassed the previous highest of 34.8°C recorded only yesterday and it equaled the warmest day in June in a decade, the official said.

He said barring June 3, 2018 when mercury had also reached to 35.0°C, never in a decade has the mercury soared so high in the summer capital of J&K previously.

Other places including Pahalgam recorded 30.0°C, Qazigund 34.2°C, Kokernag 33.7°C, Kupwara 33.5°C  and Gulmarg 25.0°C.

Kokernag, the official said, recorded the warmest June day in more than decade.

The officials also predicted some respite from hot weather from tomorrow.

They said there will be respite from the current heat-wave from tomorrow onwards. “On June 24, the weather will be generally cloudy with light rain/thunderstorms at scattered places of Jammu and few places of Kashmir division,” they said.

From June 25-28, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate thunderstorms at many places.
