Mallinson Girls School Score 8 goals, enter Finals

Srinagar: The Department of Youth Services & Sports Thursday inaugurated the highly anticipated Inter-District Provincial Level Subrato Mukherji Cup Football Championship Under-14 Boys in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.

The tournament was inaugurated by the Principal of Government Degree College Baramulla and the Chairman of Municipal Council Baramulla jointly.

The opening ceremony of this prestigious championship took place at a designated venue in Baramulla, witnessing the presence of distinguished guests and a huge presence of sports lovers and employees of the Department of YS&S.

The participating teams from all 10 districts of the Kashmir province showcased their enthusiasm and passion for the game as they marched onto the field. These talented players, all under the age of 14, demonstrated their dedication and love for football.

The 62nd edition of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2023 is scheduled to be held at New Delhi for Junior Boys(U-17) and Junior Girls (U-17) and the Sub-Junior Boys (U-14) is scheduled at Bengaluru. The tentative dates for the tournament are Sept 14th to October 23rd, 2023.

Meanwhile, to select the champion school teams in different age group categories, the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K conducted matches of girls’ football teams. Joint Director Kashmir of YS&S Waseem Raja visited Bakshi Stadium Srinagar on Thursday and interacted with Girl’s Football Teams of IDPS Bandipora and Islamia High School Budgam. Bandipora team after defeating their opponents played another scheduled match of the day.

In the second scheduled match held at the venue, IDPS Bandipora locked horns with the Football team of Mallinson Girls’ School Srinagar. MGS emerged winners while shooting 8 goals on Nill. Team MGS shall lock horns in the Inter-divisional UT level finale with the winning team of the Jammu division in the days to come. The final Team shall represent J&K UT in the esteemed Tournament at National Level.

Pertinently, the Subroto Cup-2023 returned after a hiatus of two years and in the Kashmir Division, the matches at the Provincial Level for school boys are presently being played in District Baramulla at Degree College Ground. The aim of the tournament is to use sports to foster friendship among the youth.
