DC Baramulla kick starts fortnightly IDCF in DH Baramulla

Baramulla: With a goal to contain deaths  due to diarrhoea, health department in Baramulla lunched the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) 2018  program under the theme ‘Zero child death due to childhood diarrhoea’   from 28 May to 9 June  in District Hospital Baramulla to create awareness among common masses of  Baramulla district.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr. Nisar Ahmed Naqash flanked by Chief Medical Officer Baramulla Dr. Bashir Ahmed Chalkoo and Medical Superintendent DH Baramulla Dr. Syed Masood and pediatrician consultant Dr. Govinder Singh inaugurated the fortnight awareness cum orientation program at DH Baramulla  in which scores of students, ASHA workers, doctors and paramedical staff participated.

The main agenda of the program was to create awareness among people and medicos about diarrhea control.

Speakers highlighted the set of activities to be implemented in an intensified manner for prevention and control of deaths due to dehydration from diarrhea.

Speaking at the occasion, Medical Superintendent DH Baramulla Dr. Syed Masood said, “We need to give more emphasis to children below 5 years of age as they are more vulnerable to diarrhea.”

He added that IDCF was started three years back with an aim to decrease child mortality and attain zero childhood diarrhea deaths.

Chief Medical Officer Baramulla  Dr. Bashir Ahmed Chalkoo  said that PHE department by supplying portable and hygienic drinking water plays an active role in addressing the issue. He urged all health workers to demonstrate and promote the importance of hand washing.

Speaking on the occasion DC Baramulla Dr. Nisar Ahmed Naqash  appreciated the health department in organizing the programme and hailed the role of Asha and Anganwari workers in realizing the initiative and said they should remain active on ground in reaching every doorstep to make people especially mothers aware about the cleanliness.

CMO Baramulla said that an extensive exercise of distributing of ORS and zinc tablets through ASHAs and Anganwadi workers would be launched.

These items/drugs would be given to children through ASHAs and Anganwadi workers at district hospitals, sub-district hospitals, CHCs and PHCs.
