J&K most neglected on dev, employment fronts: Tariq Hameed Karra
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: Senior Congress Leader and AICC Steering Committee Member Tariq Hameed Karra on Sunday said that Jammu and Kashmir is most neglected on economic, development employment, and other fronts.

“The present dispensation at the Centre has only made false promises, from time to time, besides Centre Govt has miserably failed to restore confidence among the people, who are feeling cheated and betrayed,” said Karra.

He made these comments while addressing a largely attended Party workers convention of the Bemina Unit of Central Shalteng Segment in Srinagar District and urged the cadres to gear up for the upcoming challenges.

Addressing the convention, Tariq Hameed Karra slammed the Centre Govt for failing the people of J&K on all fronts after snatching their rights and other privileges granted under the constitution of India by a stroke of a pen. “Unemployment has risen considerably, a development which the BJP Govt is claimed to have done is nowhere to be seen, but the inauguration of projects especially those already sanctioned by the previous ruling dispensations happen day in and day out and termed such measures as misleading and an attempt to hide failure on all fronts.”

Senior Congress Leader expressed dismay over the disconnect being witnessed between people and the administration in the absence of the democratically elected Govt. He lamented that elections are not being held on one pretext or the other aiming to rule J&K directly from the Centre.

He said that such measures reflect that BJP Govt is insensitive to the plight of J&K people and not paving the way for holding elections for the lust of power, which is very unfortunate and unacceptable.

Referring to the local issues concerning people in Bemina, Karra criticized installing of smart meters aiming to put the burden on the pockets of people living below the poverty line (BPL) and said these poor people cannot afford to pay the electric fee being charged through smart meters, as they make their both ends meet with great difficulty. He also expressed serious concern over the withdrawal of financial assistance to widows and old aged and demanded that their monthly assistance must be restored.

Karra also laid emphasis on granting scholarships to children of widows of Bemina, who are unable to provide education to their children. Senior Congress Leader also criticized the Govt move of withdrawing the AAY ration quota of BPL families of Bemina, who are not able to purchase the required ration from the Govt, and demanded that the AAY ration be restored to the BPL category.

Senior Congress Leaders also urged upon the Govt to come out with a special package for unemployed youths and the regularization of casual, daily, and need-based employees working in different departments.

“Congress Party feels highly concerned about the well-being of the people,” Karra added and blamed BJP Govt for failing people on all counts while urging the Party workers to remain steadfast to serve people which is the core of the Congress Party.

Senior Congress Leaders Surinder Singh Channi and Nissar Ahmad Mundoo also addressed the convention and described Congress Party as an instrument of service to the people and expressed confidence that the Party is strong enough to defeat the misleading politics of BJP and others.
