Leh: The administration of the UT of Ladakh in collaboration with the Indian Army organized a campaign at Pangong Tso Lake to celebrate International Day of Biodiversity.

“The three-day long event which commenced on 20 May 2023 was organized in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife Protection, UT Ladakh, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Secure Himalayas, and other departments of UT of Ladakh,” said PRO (Defence) Srinagar.

“An exhibition showcasing biodiversity, screening of awareness documentaries, and videos on lifestyle for the environment were the main highlights of the campaign,” the PRO said.

“Tanuj Nagpal, State Project Officer, UNDP, Secure Himalayas, conducted an awareness lecture on sustainable use and restoration of Himalayan (high range) ecosystems. Dhawan Kumar Rawat, DFO, Leh Department of Forests, UT of Ladakh also addressed the gathering and stressed upon the conservation of the environment and the importance of plantation drive in the region,” he said.

“Community members of nearby villages of Lukung, Phobrang, and Spangmik and tourists from all over the country came in large numbers to attend the campaign and make it a success. Mission LiFE pledge was taken by community members, tourists, officials, and Indian Army personnel to protect the environment,” he added.
