Inter-department cricket tournament begins at KU’s South Campus

Anantnag: An inter-department cricket tournament (men) started at South Campus, University of Kashmir.

The tournament has been organized by the Department of Physical Education & Sports, South Campus, and is witnessing the participation of nine teams including teaching-11, non-teaching 11, and seven departments.

Assistant Director of Physical Education, Tausif Ahmad Bhat, welcomed the teaching and non-teaching staff, officers, officials, and participating teams and gave a detailed account of the sports activities being conducted in South Campus from last week.

Earlier, the tournament was thrown open by the Director of South Campus, Prof Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday.

Prof Khanday said that South Campus is committed to promoting sports activities with an aim to instill sports culture among students and employees.

The inaugural match was played Monday at the South Campus playground between teaching-11 and non-teaching-11. The teaching-11 won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 92/5 in the allotted 10 overs.

Ashfaq Ahmad scored the highest 59 runs off 24 balls, while Dr Firdous Ahmad Shah contributed 14 runs with the willow. Mohammad Ayoub and Showkat Ahmad claimed 2 wickets each for non-teaching-11.

In reply, non-teaching -11 was bundled out on 57/7 in 10 overs. Hilal Ahmad scored 14 runs for non-teaching -11.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad took 3 wickets, while Dr. Mohamad Iqbal Bhat claimed 2 wickets for teaching-11, thereby helping their team to win the match by 35 runs.
