An official spokesman said that the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had a telephonic conversation today with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and discussed the issue of examination centres for Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for J&K Students.

“Discussed the matter relating to exam centres for the scheduled Common University Entrance Test (CUET) with Hon’ble Union Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Ji and requested him for CUET centres in J&K UT. He has assured the issue will be addressed on priority,” office of LG J&K tweeted.

Earlier, the University of Kashmir said that the CUET examination centre issue will get ‘resolved’ on Friday.

Vice Chancellor Prof Nilofar Khan said that it has taken up the CUET examination centre issue with the National Testing Agency (NTA) and Higher Education Department.

Pertinently, hundreds of aspirants have expressed concern over allotting examination centres outside Jammu and Kashmir in contrary to their preferred centres.

Meanwhile, National Testing Agency (NTA) Friday rescheduled the exams for J&K saying the exams will commence from May-26 onwards instead of May-21 in the UT.

Senior Director Exams for NTA, Sadhana Parashar said, “Being sensitive to the needs of candidates and to facilitate the students of Jammu and Kashmir, the NTA is exploring the possibility of creating temporary Centers in Kashmir.”

“In view of the above, it has been decided that the CUET (UG) – 2023 will now be conducted from 26 May 2023 onwards in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir,” Parashar said.

The official said that it has been decided that the CUET (UG) – 2023 examination scheduled for 21 to 25 May 2023 is cancelled in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, NTA on Friday clarified that it is exploring the possibility of creating a temporary centre in Srinagar to conduct CUET exams in order to bring back most of the candidates here.

NTA in a statement has said that in Jammu and Kashmir, a total of 87,309 unique candidates have been registered from the UT for the UG CUET 2023.
