District President Ganderbal Haji Ghulam Nabi Rather was also present on the occasion.

The women’s wing of the party was founded to promote the political and social empowerment of women in J&K, Shameema said adding, “NC is the trailblazer in women’s democratic and human rights. We have more than a century-old legacy of standing for the rights and the upliftment of all sections of society, particularly women. Gender equality is at the very heart of human rights and the cornerstone of our party values and ideology.”

“Today our sisters are shining in every field and making a mark in every profession, While we’ve come a long way in the last seventy years, there are still many areas in our society in which women and girls experience unequal treatment. Given our core commitment to the issue, we are making efforts to bring more women into our fold. The response from the educated women has been very tremendous. We believe that having more educated and confident women in politics will attune party policies to the challenges and difficulties faced by women,” he said.

Addressing the functionaries, Er. Sabiya Qadri said, “We have been the forerunners in promoting issues relating to development and gender equality. We have been the forerunners in promoting issues relating to development and gender equality. Ours is the only party that has been one of the first parties in the entire subcontinent to give a pedestal to the JK women, they deserve.”

“NC-led governments from time to time have earnestly worked to materialize its progressive vision enshrined in the Naya Kashmir document, but the successive non-NC-led governments including the present regime have least focused on placing women at the center of developmental discourse to ensure their participation as a stakeholder in policy-making, development. It’s only NC that boasts a vision that believes in utilizing women’s agencies in community building and peace-making,” he added.
